CDEA Whatever You Need is simply an opportunity for dance educators in all sectors to come together to take a master class hosted by a guest artist. The only agenda is the dance educator gets "whatever they need" out of the session. Those needs can vary from wanting to move in a class taught by someone else or to get ideas to improve practice or just a need to get together with other people who teach dance. It is a session for dance educators, by dance educators and with dance educators. Whatever You Need is held in regional locations around the state. Come get whatever you need.

Cherie Hill shares her teaching project Creative Movement and the African Aesthetic. Participants will experience a creative dance lesson, and learn more about Cherie's approach to deconstructing African Aesthetics and creating improvisation-based dance lessons. Questions regarding dance, aesthetics, and identifying the essence of movements will be discussed and practiced.

Cherie Hill is the Director of Community & Culture, and a teaching artist at Luna Dance Institute. A long-time lover of dance, she has taught dance to children in the Bay Area since 2005. Cherie received a BA in Dance and Performance Studies from UC Berkeley where she performed with Bay Area Repertory Dance Company, and an MFA from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She has published dance research in Gender Forum, In Dance, the Sacred Dance Guild Journal, and Dance Education in Practice, and has presented at international conferences including the International Association of Black Dance Conference and the International Conference on Arts and Humanities. Her dance teaching project, “Creative Movement and the African Aesthetic” has been presented at NDEO Conferences in Miami, Berkeley, and San Diego, and at Dance TAG Philadelphia. Cherie Hill’s dance company, IrieDance, explores human expression and how it is conveyed through the body in collaboration with nature, music and visual imagery.
