SERVE ON A CDEA COMMITTEE!
You have joined CDEA. You support dance and dance education in California. Are you interested in serving on a committee? Are you interested in developing as a leader in the field? What does this entail? How much of a time commitment? How will this benefit you? How will this further the progress of dance education?
COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS
Advocacy Committee
The Advocacy Committee keeps abreast of issues in California related to funding, arts programs, the dance credential, state legislation, and more. The Advocacy Committee members sit on other committees, such as CAAE (California Alliance for Arts Education). The Advocacy Committee keeps the general CDEA membership abreast of issues which require action on the part of the members.
Fundraising Committee
The Fundraising Committee applies for grants for operating support and for special projects. Currently, CDEA receives income from membership fees, grants, donations, and advertisements in the newsletter.
Professional Development Committee
The Professional Development Committee is preparing the CDEA pedagogy certificate, advocating for the dance credential in California, attending conferences and workshops, and writing position papers.
Public Relations Committee
Public Relations keeps key people in the field of dance and arts education abreast of CDEA membership, activities, position papers, projects, and more. Public relations also oversees the tri-annual CDEA newsletter --Impressions-- as well as the website and e-mail list.
COMMITTEE COMMITMENTS AND REQUIREMENTS
Requirements
Any current CDEA member can join a committee, regardless of age, location, or experience level. Every committee is comprised of members from all over the state. There is no size limit to the
committees. CDEA is committed to developing leadership skills in dance educators and developing future leaders.
Time Commitment
Each committee varies. Most communicate via e-mail, and meet 1-4 times a year. CDEA highly encourages members to remain on a committee for at least one year.
E-mail
It is advisable to have an email address as much action in the organization is conducted through email.
Committee Meetings
The meetings vary per committee and take place in various parts of the state.
HOW THIS CAN BENEFIT YOU
Being on a committee will make your CDEA membership more personal. You will be working firsthand with other dance educators around the state.
This will help you with collegiality, building community contacts,
accessing resources, and gaining a sense of the bigger picture of dance education in California.
Being on a committee is a form of professional development as well as community service. List this on your resume or CV. Let your employer know of your commitment to dance education in California.
HOW THIS WILL BENEFIT DANCE AND CDEA
CDEA only exists because of its members and their time and commitment to moving dance forward in California. By working by committee, we are able to tackle the big issues in dance education. Brainstorming together and taking action keeps the field moving forward.
NEXT STEPS
If interested in joining a committee, directly contact the chair of that
committee. If you have more general questions, contact CDEA
Administrator Julia Marx at (510)704-8494 or info@cdeadance.org
