HIGH ALERT: CSUS DEPT. OF TEACHER EDUCATION
IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR A COHORTED PROGRAM
FOR A MASTERS IN ARTS EDUCATION
APPLICATION PERIOD ENDS ON APRIL 1, 2008 -- DO NOT DELAY!!

California State University Sacramento - Department of Teacher Education is now accepting applications for a cohorted program for a Master of Arts in Education: Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Arts in Education.

The 2 year-30 semester unit degree program is designed for classroom teachers and arts specialists. Currently there are several dance educators completing their MA degrees in 2008 Spring Semester.

The Culminating Experience (final project/thesis) can be satisfied by one of five alternative pathways to support growth as an artist/educator. One goal of this program is to support development of teacher leaders and researchers, who become knowledgeable activists for the arts. An example of one course, EDTE 251: Education for a Democratic Pluralistic Society, last summer some students went to the village of San Gaspar in the State of Jalisco, Mexico, "took over the school" and taught arts to grade 1-6 for a week.

10-week Creative Dance Performance Group
in Mar Vista, Los Angeles, CA
Primary Outreach to Dance Teachers!

This group is to nurture and nourish dance teachers (and friends) by engaging in creative process (improvisation and composition) with each other. Often when we are teaching, we get stuck just giving to our students. The goal of this group is to dance and create with each other for our own well-being and sense of community.

It will also be Professional Development, because one of our primary questions for exploration will be: How can notation, specifically, Language of Dance (LOD)/Laban motif writing, support the creative process? I will be introducing motif writing through fun improv and comp structures. We will also be writing, drawing, observing each other, and engaging in partner/group work. We will be incorporating interests/needs of the group members, as well.

This group, facilitated by Michael Richter, will be meeting once a week for 2 hours over 10 weeks (March – May). We will be performing our work at the conclusion of the series.

Please contact Michael ASAP at mikeydance@yahoo.com if you are interested in participating, with a first, second, and third choice for meeting time.

Possible Times:
Tuesdays, 4:30-6:30 or 7-9 pm
Fridays, 4:30–6:30 pm or 7 -9 pm

Place: Mar Vista, Los Angeles, at a pre-school play center (A Kid’s Place) on Venice Blvd. at Centinela.

Fee: Nominal – a shared portion of the space rental between $25 - $40 per month ($7 -10 per meeting), depending on how many of us commit to the group, to be paid at either the first or second meeting.

Commitment:  Please be able to make at least 8 of the meetings, barring emergencies.

Michael Richter, MA in Dance, has been teaching, improvising, performing, and dancing for 14 years.  He loves dancing in nature and making dances with peers – fellow teachers. He has been awarded CAC and CCH grants for his work, as well as Community Dance Fellowships at Jacob’s Pillow. He has produced and directed weekend concerts at Highways. He has taught 10,000 students in the last 8 years from pre-school through high school and college, as well as community dancers.
