Message from CDEA Co-Directors: Recapping the Annual NDEO Conference
Thank you to all CDEA members who joined us at the NDEO conference the end of June. We had a wonderful California presence at this national conference. We would especially like to acknowledge and thank the California dance educators who made conference presentations: Rhonda Martyn, Sean McMahon, Emily Greene, Avilee Goodwin, Veleda Roehl, Tricia Ong, Crystal Baik and Patrica Reedy. At the conference we also had the opportunity to host a reception with our colleagues from Arizona. A fun time was had by all and we presented a scholarship to our first National Dance Honor Society graduate, Tajinee Simmons.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW BOARD MEMBERS!!

CDEA welcomes our newest Co-Presidents Elect Shana Habel (SoCal) and
Edward (Ted) Warburton (NoCal). We would also like to welcome our new Treasurer, Daanee Touchstone (SoCal); see her bio below.

DAANEE TOUCHSTONE
Dance is my passion -- it is what I have done since I was three years old and what I hope to do for a mighty long time! I am a professional ballet dancer and am trained primarily in Vaganova (Russian) Ballet technique, but I also have studied Modern, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, African, Dunham, and Salsa.
As a child and teenager, I studied at the DeRea School of Dance in Los Angeles and at the Marlborough School. As a young adult, I studied and performed with the Legat School of Russian Ballet in East Sussex, England, and received a B.A. in Dance from Loyola Marymount University. As a member of SAG-AFTRA, my professional dance experience includes work in film, video, television, and stage. I have danced with several companies including: apprenticed with the Lula Washington Dance Theater; lead dancer with Katja Beisanz Dance Theater; soloist with JazzAntiqua Dance and Music Ensemble; and currently perform as a guest artist with the Beach Cities Dance Company.
My teaching experience includes Citywide Arts, Pasadena Unified School District, Athletic Garage, Plaza de la Raza School of Performing Arts, and the Marlborough School. My most prominent teaching position was at the Sue B. Dance Company in Pasadena, where I was the Head Ballet Mistress and Ballet Company Director for 10 years. I have a Professional Clear Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential, as well as a Masters Degree in School Administration, and when I was in the “classroom”, I taught second grade.
In addition to being an Elementary Dance Teacher for LAUSD
, I currently teach Ballet at Beach Cities Dance in Manhattan Beach. And when I’m not teaching locomotor movements for the LAUSD Arts Program, you can find me at the LMU library, where I am working on a Doctorate in Educational Leadership for Social Justice!! In other words, I keep myself busy and I enjoy what I do very much!
I am very excited to be working with CDEA and look forward to helping out as much as I can during my term of service.
